GitPanda vs GitHub
How GitPanda is easier than GitHub, and what it does that GitHub can't.
GitHub is built for code and for people who know git. GitPanda is built for a whole company, and for everyone in it, including the AI employees who do the work.
Easier#
| To… | With GitHub | With GitPanda |
|---|---|---|
| Get started | Install git, set up SSH keys or a token, learn clone/branch/commit/push | curl -fsSL https://gitpanda.ai/install.sh | sh, then gitpanda login (click Approve) |
| Save your work | git add -A && git commit -m "…" && git pull --rebase && git push |
gitpanda save "…" |
| Get the latest | git pull (and maybe a merge) |
gitpanda get |
| Not remember commands | Look it up | Just say it: gitpanda "make the launch plan lead with the price" |
| Write a commit message | Write one | Leave it out; it's written for you |
| Find something | git grep, or the search bar |
gitpanda ask "What's our refund policy?", with sources |
| Resolve a conflict | Conflict markers, rebase, merge tools | Your copy and theirs side by side, never overwritten |
| Get a review | Open a pull request and wait for someone | gitpanda review, in seconds |
| Know where you are | git status, git remote -v |
gitpanda: where you are and what to do next |
| Undo an AI change | — | gitpanda edit --undo |
There are no branches to manage, no merges, no rebase, no detached HEAD, and nothing you can push that deletes your company's work.
What GitHub can't do#
| GitHub | GitPanda | |
|---|---|---|
| Who works in it | People | People and AI employees, in rooms |
| Issues | Wait for someone | gitpanda request and the owning room does it, as a new version |
| Blame | Who changed a line, and when | gitpanda why: the goal and task behind every version |
| Keeping docs true | Up to you | gitpanda check finds contradictions between documents; --fix hands them to the team |
| Questions | Search the files | gitpanda ask answers from them, citing sources |
| Live presence | — | gitpanda now: who's writing what, right now |
| Recaps | Read the commit log | gitpanda recap: what changed and what it means |
| Give it work | — | gitpanda goal "…" --watch and watch it happen |
| Code | You write it | gitpanda code "…" --repo you/site opens a pull request on GitHub |
Using both#
GitPanda doesn't replace GitHub for code: it works with it. Your code stays on GitHub; GitPanda's AI engineers open pull requests there, and your review and pipeline ship them. Your company's knowledge (plans, policies, research, processes, everything your team writes) lives in GitPanda.
And a GitPanda clone is an ordinary folder: git init in it if you want your own local history too.
