Install
Install gitpanda on macOS, Linux or Windows, check it works, keep it updated, and uninstall it.
gitpanda is a single file with no dependencies. It runs anywhere Node 18 or newer runs.
Requirements#
- Node.js 18 or newer. Check with
node --version. If it's missing or older, install it from nodejs.org, with Homebrew (brew install node), or with your Linux distribution's package manager. - An OkayPanda account with at least one company. Sign up at okaypanda.com.
macOS and Linux (recommended)#
curl -fsSL https://gitpanda.ai/install.sh | shThe installer:
- checks that Node 18 or newer is installed,
- downloads
gitpandato~/.local/bin/gitpandaand makes it executable, - tells you if
~/.local/binisn't on your PATH, and how to fix it, - prints the version and the next step.
It doesn't need sudo and doesn't change any files outside ~/.local/bin.
Want it somewhere else? Set GITPANDA_INSTALL_DIR:
curl -fsSL https://gitpanda.ai/install.sh | GITPANDA_INSTALL_DIR=/usr/local/bin shManual install#
If you'd rather not pipe a script into your shell, download the file yourself:
mkdir -p ~/.local/bin
curl -fsSL https://gitpanda.ai/gitpanda.mjs -o ~/.local/bin/gitpanda
chmod +x ~/.local/bin/gitpandaThe same file is also served from https://okaypanda.com/cli/gitpanda.mjs.
Windows#
- Install Node.js 18 or newer.
- Download gitpanda.mjs to a folder, for example
C:\Users\you\bin. - Run it with Node:
node C:\Users\you\bin\gitpanda.mjs loginTo type just gitpanda, create gitpanda.cmd next to it containing
@node "%~dp0gitpanda.mjs" %*, and add the folder to your PATH. Everything works on Windows except
gitpanda shell --install, which sets up zsh and bash prompts. WSL works like Linux.
Check it works#
gitpanda --version
gitpandaRunning gitpanda on its own shows the panda, your version, whether you're signed in, and the next
thing to do.
"command not found: gitpanda"#
Your shell doesn't look in ~/.local/bin yet. The easiest fix also adds the panda to your prompt:
~/.local/bin/gitpanda shell --installOr add the folder to your PATH yourself, then open a new terminal:
echo 'export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"' >> ~/.zshrc # zsh (the macOS default)
echo 'export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"' >> ~/.bashrc # bashUpdating#
gitpanda upgradegitpanda checks for a new version once a day and mentions it after status, pull, push,
clone and repos. upgrade replaces the file in place with the latest version. Running the
installer again does the same thing.
If you see 'upgrade' is not a gitpanda command, you have a version older than 2.1. Run the
installer once, and upgrade works from then on.
Uninstalling#
rm ~/.local/bin/gitpanda # the tool
rm -rf ~/.gitpanda # your saved sign-ins and settingsThen remove the lines starting with # gitpanda: from ~/.zshrc or ~/.bashrc if you set up the
prompt, and revoke its keys in OkayPanda (GitPanda → Command line → Signed-in terminals and keys).
Your clones are ordinary folders: delete them whenever you like.
