AI in your repository
Ask your repository questions, search it, and let AI write commit messages, review your changes, edit documents, explain files and recap what changed.
GitPanda isn't just a copy of your company's documents. It understands them. Every AI feature reads only what you're allowed to see, cites where its answers come from, and leaves the final say to you.
Just say it#
You don't need to remember any command. Type what you want in plain words:
gitpanda "make the launch plan lead with the price"
gitpanda "what did marketing finish this week?"
gitpanda "have sales add the new hoodies to the price list"
gitpanda "check if any of our docs contradict each other" → gitpanda edit marketing/docs/launch-plan.md "lead with the price" Edit the launch plan
? Go ahead? [Y/n]The AI picks the right command, fills in the real file or room, and shows it to you first.
Questions and lookups run straight away; anything that changes something (edit, request, goal,
save) asks first. In scripts, add --yes. A typo like gitpanda stauts gets "Did you mean: status?"
instead.
And two plain-word shortcuts:
gitpanda save "Lead with the price" # stage, commit, pull and push everything
gitpanda get # get the latest from your teamEvery AI command#

The same things are on the repository's page in OkayPanda: an Ask or search bar, ✨ Explain on every document, and Contributors and ✨ Recap tabs.
Ask your repository#
gitpanda ask "What's our refund policy?"
gitpanda ask "Which suppliers do we use for tees, and what do they charge?" 🐼 From your repository
Refunds are accepted within **30 days**, no questions asked. Store credit after that.
Sources
● marketing/docs/refund-policy.md The policy itself
https://okaypanda.com/git/acme?path=marketing%2Fdocs%2Frefund-policy.md
● operations/README.md How returns are handled- It finds the most relevant documents, reads them, and answers only from them. If the repository doesn't cover your question, it says so ("not sure: it may not cover this").
- Every answer lists its sources, with links straight to the file.
ask <room> "…"still asks a room's lead (see Your AI team). If the first word isn't a room, the repository answers. Add--docsto always ask the repository.
Search#
gitpanda search "refund"
gitpanda search "pricing tees" -n 20Instant full-text search across every document you can see, with the matching words highlighted. It doesn't use the AI, so it's free and works on any repository you can read, including public ones on the web.
AI commit messages#
Leave out -m and the AI writes the message from what you changed:
gitpanda add marketing/docs/launch-plan.md
gitpanda commit ✨ Lead with the price in the launch plan
Use this message? [Y/n, or type your own]Press Enter to keep it, type your own to replace it, or n to cancel. gitpanda sync with no -m
does the same without asking. Messages are one line, imperative, and say what changed.
Review before you push#
gitpanda review 🐼 Review suggestions
The new pricing is clear, but it contradicts the price list.
marketing/docs/launch-plan.md
✗ Says tees are $25; the price list says $28.
"Every tee is $25 this week"
• Say when the sale ends.
★ The opening line is strong.
Checked against: sales/docs/price-list.md, marketing/README.mdThe AI reads everything you've changed since your last pull (committed or not) and compares it with what the company's other documents say. It flags contradictions, numbers or names that look wrong, missing information, and unclear writing.
| Mark | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ✗ | An issue: probably wrong, or contradicts another document |
| • | A suggestion |
| ★ | Something genuinely good |
To review automatically as part of pushing:
gitpanda push --reviewIf the review finds issues, it asks before pushing.
Edit by describing the change#
gitpanda edit marketing/docs/launch-plan.md "Lead with the price and cut it to 200 words"The AI edits your local file, keeps everything else as it was, and shows you the diff. Nothing is sent until you commit and push.
gitpanda diff # look again
gitpanda sync -m "Tighter launch plan" # keep it
gitpanda edit --undo # or put the file backYou can create a new document the same way: name a file that doesn't exist yet under a docs/ folder.
Explain a file#
gitpanda explain marketing/README.mdWhat the document is, the three to six things that matter most in it, and good follow-up questions,
ready to paste into gitpanda ask.
Recap#
gitpanda recap # the last 7 days
gitpanda recap --days 30A plain-English summary of what changed, grouped by theme, with highlights and who did the work (AI employees by name). On the web, the ✨ Recap tab has Today, 7 days and 30 days.
Contributors#
gitpanda contributorsEveryone who has changed the repository, people and AI employees, with how many changes and when they last changed something. Changes OkayPanda makes automatically (like room READMEs) are listed as "OkayPanda (automatic)".
Privacy and cost#
- Only what you can see. The AI reads the same files you could open yourself. Locked rooms never reach it unless you're an owner or admin.
- Your content is data, not instructions. Text in documents can't make the AI do anything else.
- On the web, the AI is for members of the company and people the repository is shared with. Anonymous visitors to a public repository can search it, but can't use the AI.
- It uses your company's AI budget, like all of your team's work, and shows up on the Usage page. When the company is paused or its daily or monthly budget is used up, the AI features stop and say so (search, history and the rest keep working). Each key or person can make up to 20 AI requests a minute and 300 a day.
- Search, contributors, history and diffs don't use the AI at all.
