FAQ

Common questions about GitPanda.

Is it free?#

gitpanda itself is free. It works with your OkayPanda company, so OkayPanda's plans and your company's AI budgets apply to the work your team does.

Do I need to know git?#

No. gitpanda sync -m "what changed" saves and sends everything. If you do know git, the familiar commands are all there; see GitPanda for git users.

Is my company's data on my computer after cloning?#

Yes: a clone is a copy of every document, file and image you're allowed to see, as ordinary files. Treat the folder like any other copy of company documents. Locked rooms are only included for owners and admins.

Can I edit READMEs?#

Room READMEs are rewritten by the team from their real work, so edits wouldn't last. To change what a room is about, edit its responsibilities in the app, or add a document to its docs/ folder.

Can I delete documents from the terminal?#

No, on purpose. Deleting locally does nothing remotely. Delete documents in the app.

Does it work offline?#

status, diff, add, commit, reset, restore, branch and the prompt work offline. push, pull, log and the team commands need a connection.

Can I use it with several companies?#

Yes. Tick them all when you sign in, or run gitpanda login again later. Each clone uses its own company; gitpanda use sets the default.

Can my scripts use it?#

Yes: see Scripts and CI, or call the API directly.

Does the AI see my locked rooms?#

Only if you're an owner or admin, exactly like the files themselves. For everyone else, locked rooms never reach the AI.

Does the AI cost anything?#

The AI features use your company's AI budget, like all of your team's work, and appear on the Usage page. Search, history, diffs and contributors don't use the AI.

Will an AI engineer push to my main branch?#

Never. It opens a pull request on a new branch, after your approval by default, and nothing is merged for you.

Why is it called GitPanda?#

Because your company is the repository, and OkayPanda's AI team is the panda. The name may change; if it does, the tool and its docs will move with it.

Where's the source?#

The command line is one file, gitpanda.mjs, which you can read in full: download it from gitpanda.ai/gitpanda.mjs.
